Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A query entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the name or place and supplies its results. Cass County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When a visitor emails us, we retain the message as needed to prepare and send a response. The correspondence remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive basic technical information when a page loads, which may include:
- Page-view dates and times
- Browser type and version
- Device category and operating system
- IP address assigned to the device
- Pages viewed and the length of each visit
- The referring site, when one is available
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies help measure how people move through the website, such as which pages draw visits and where a session ends. Analytics providers aggregate that activity. A visitor may block cookies in browser settings, although doing so can change how certain site features work.
What We Do With This Data
Collected information may be used for the following operational purposes:
- Diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- Maintaining reliable and responsive pages
- Directing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Assessing which resources help visitors and which should be improved
- Displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Cass County Criminal History does not build, maintain, or sell a personal criminal-record database. It publishes general instructions for locating material held by the Cass County Sheriff, local courts, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry. Texas Government Code Chapter 411 controls state criminal-history dissemination, while the Texas Public Information Act in Government Code Chapter 552 governs access to nonexempt records held by public bodies. Visitor data collected here is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes available on some pages. Information submitted to a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy, retention choices, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review the provider's terms before entering a query because we do not control how that company handles the submitted data.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Cass County offices, Texas agencies, court portals, legal-aid resources, and third-party search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read that policy before supplying personal information.
Advertising partners may also use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertising. Their tracking does not run on systems we control.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and operation
- Search partners that process a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks that place advertisements on the site
- Government or law enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to the information we collect. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however. We work to protect data but cannot promise that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable Texas privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights based on a visitor's residence and circumstances. The Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, concerns records held by government bodies, not private website data; Government Code Chapter 411 separately limits criminal-history dissemination. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of personal data we retain
- Ask what personal information we have on file
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this privacy policy as practices or requirements change. Any revision will appear here and carry a new effective date, so visitors should consult the current version when reviewing how information is handled.
